Norrkoping entertain Allsvenskan bottom placed club Gefle at their Östgötaporten ground on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to forget about their early Champions League exit to Rosenborg during the week.
However, Norrkoping did manage to beat Rosenborg in the second leg at home 3-2, but having lost the first leg 3-1, it just wasn’t enough to progress to the next round. Anyway, Norrkoping bring a nine-game unbeaten run into today’s encounter as they seek to reduce the deficit on league leaders Malmo.
Norrkoping have shown some strong form on home turf so far this season as their record of 5-2-0 20/7 indicates, along with all five wins recorded so far being by a margin of at least 2 goals! Forwards Nyman and Andersson have combined to score a total of 11 goals so far this season.
Visitors Gefle sit joint bottom of the Swedish Allsvenskan with Falkenberg, both teams sitting on a meagre total of 8 points to date this term. Gefle have registered just two wins all season – one at home and one away, while their away record stands at a poor 1-0-5 4/15.
Despite beating GIF Sundsvall 2-1 in their opening match away from home back in early April, Gefle’s form has since slumped in alarming fashion on their travels as they’ve lost the subsequent five Allsvenskan matches on the road.
Defeats at Jonkopings, Hacken, Elfsborg, Malmo and Hammarby have seen them score just 2 goals while conceding a total of 14 goals during this recent sequence.
I have to give the nod to Norrkoping here then, and I’ll also back them to cover the line too given their goalscoring prowess.
