Northampton Town maintained their unbeaten start to the new League One season last weekend when they registered a 3-2 home win over MK Dons, and The Cobblers now sit in 11th spot as a result with an opportunity to inflict further misery on Walsall here today.
Northampton had previously been the ‘draw specialists’ prior to the MK Dons win, but with a solid home record of 1-2-0 4/3 at their Sixfields Stadium, they’ll no doubt fancy their chances of taking something out of this clash with west midlands outfit Walsall.
The Cobblers have earned points against Fleetwood Town and AFC Wimbledon 1-1 and 0-0 respectively, but their win over MK Dons shows that they do have a cutting edge, and with striker Alex Revell up front, the hosts will always stand a chance of further success, particularly on home turf.
Visitors Walsall head into this clash with Northampton Town on the back of four League One matches without a win following defeats to Chesterfield and Charlton Athletic along with stalemates against Oldham Athletic and Bury.
Away from home, Walsall have dropped their levels in quite dramatic fashion as they’ve gained just one win on their travels from their last five matches on the road, which was a 5-0 win away at Port Vale – but this was recorded last May at the end of last season.
Since then, defeats at Barnsley and Chesterfield along with just a point at Oldham Athletic have left the midlanders dangerously close to the early relegation zone being level on points with fourth from bottom club Southend United.
