NORWICH v BRENTFORD – Pick: 1 and both teams to score – 24 January 2015

Canaries push for play-off place

Football – England – Championship

Saturday 24th January 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Seventh placed Norwich City will be keen to keep their recent good form going on Saturday when they host fifth placed Brentford at Carrow Road, with an all-important three points up for grabs for both teams.

Norwich currently sit just outside the play-off pack but just one league place and one point adrift of sixth placed Watford who host bottom club Blackpool. It’s likely that The Hornets will win that one, so this places an even greater emphasis on today’s game against Brentford who they could actually leapfrog into the play-off places as Norwich possess a better goal difference.

The Canaries have won three of their last four with wins over Millwall (6-1), away at Championship leaders Bournemouth and last weekend’s win over Cardiff City although they were given a scare in the second half by The Bluebirds.

Striker Cameron Jerome (13 goals) is on fire at the moment and he’s scored 5 goals in his last 6 league matches.

Visitors Brentford have still maintained their play-off place thanks to recent back-to-back wins over Rotherham United and Brighton, although their form has been really hit-or-miss in the past few weeks having lost three and won four.

Away from home, Brentford’s record stands at  6-1-6  18/20 which seems to emphasise exactly my point as The Bees have registered wins at Millwall, Cardiff City and Brighton but have lost at Huddersfield town and Wolves. Brentford have kept just three clean sheets so far on the road, and they’ve conceded 2 goals or more on seven occasions from their 13 matches.

Norwich City are the Championship’s leading goalscorers at home with a total of 31 goals, but it’s interesting to note that Norwich have kept just one clean sheet at home though, so I’ll back them to outscore Brentford here this afternoon in what could be a 2-1 win for the hosts but both teams to score.
