Nottingham Forest v Wolves

Football – England – Championship

Two teams struggling for form and residing in the bottom half of the Championship meet on Saturday with Nottingham Forest hosting Wolves. Forest are currently 16th on 26 points whilst their opponents are four points worse off in 20th. Considering the respective size of both clubs then neither of their current positions should be deemed acceptable and the hope is that the final few games of this year can produce some positive results building towards what they wish will be an altogether better 2017 for both.

Forest are currently in the midst of a takeover which the fans will be welcome off considering their disapproval of the current regime. On the park, there has been no shortage of entertainment for those supporters as the 21 games their team have played in this season’s Championship have contained 72 goals – a league high. As you would expect, though, for a team situated in the lower reaches of the division, that kind of record ensures plenty of goals conceded. Forest have kept only one clean sheet all season and when that’s the case then you’re always going to have problems. Although the team have proven they can score goals from all over the park, they are at a serious disadvantage when they cannot prevent the other team from scoring, and logic dictates that they simply cannot win as often as they need to unless they are able to rectify that issues, and soon. Their last six games have contained only the one defeat but that came against arch rivals Derby and was a comprehensive loss as well.

Wolves fans were getting excited during the summer as their club was taken over by a wealthy consortium made up of people who had serious contacts across Europe. Walter Zenga was employed to lead the team to what they hoped would be a successful season ending in promotion. As we know now, that aim looks very unlikely to be accomplished this campaign and certainly won’t be done so under the reign of Zenga who was replaced with Paul Lambert last month. It has been a baptism of fire for Lambert, who has experience of winning promotion from this league with Norwich. His first five games have returned just the one win with two defeats, most recently last time out against Cardiff. With one of the bigger squads at this level at his disposal it is going to take some time for Lambert to find his way but there have been some promising signs in the short space of time he’s been at the club.

Nottingham Forest v Wolves Betting Tips

It has been a season to forget for both these teams thus far but the aim must be to get as many points in their last three games of 2016 with a view to taking that better form into the New Year. I alluded to how entertaining games involving Forest have been this season but Wolves supporters got their own experience last weekend when drawing 4-4 at home to Fulham.

Forest have only lost one of their last six at the City Ground but Wolves have actually performed better on their travels of late, picking up a win and two draws in their last four away. The loss to Cardiff on Tuesday would have been disappointing, particularly as it was as a result of another late goal. In terms of a selection for Saturday, I think the safest option is for both teams to find the back of the net. It’s a bet that has been a winner in each one of Forest’s home games this season and Wolves’ recent resurgence in front of goal should mean it continues this weekend.
