Last chance saloon for Forest and Pearce

Saturday 31st January 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

It’s crunch time for Nottingham Forest, and in particular, manager Stuart Pearce, as his side take on relegation strugglers Millwall at the City Ground on Saturday.

Defeat this afternoon could be the end of Pearce’s reign at Forest despite his ‘legend’ status, but recent results have been anything but legendary. Just one win from their last nine league matches as well as crashing out of the FA Cup in the third round to League One Rochdale has the natives restless, and had it nit been for their east midlands derby win over Derby County, I reckon Pearce would have been shown the door already.

Nottingham Forest now sit in a disappointing mid-table position after making a promising start to their season where they once again held a play-off position but have let it out of their grasp. But this afternoon is a great opportunity for them to bounce back as Millwall have been struggling all season.

Millwall currently sit third from bottom and have a five-point deficit to make up on Rotherham who registered a vital win over Bolton in midweek. But The Lions have won just once in their last thirteen Championship matches and even though Forest have been out of sorts lately, they could well struggle at the City Ground this afternoon.

Incidentally, that win came at Brighton but at the time of playing, Hyppia was in charge of a beleaguered outfit. Millwall have lost five of their last six, with a reprieve coming in the shape of a point against Reading in a 0-0 midweek draw at the New Den.

But Millwall make the trip up to Nottingham hoping to avoid a third straight defeat on the road following losses at Norwich City and bottom club Blackpool, while their overall away record stands at  2-5-6  10/20.

Nottingham Forest (and Pearce) will be desperate to win this one – it could be Pearce’s last chance. The home side should take this perhaps 2-1.
