NOTTS CO v GILLINGHAM – Pick: 1 AH0 – 04 September 2014

Magpies could steal the points at Meadow Lane

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 4th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Notts County will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches when they take on mid-table Gillingham at Meadow Lane on Saturday afternoon and register back-to-back league wins for just the second time this season.

The Magpies ended a run of four consecutive stalemates with a resounding 3-0 win away at poor Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night, and it could be argued that prior to that success, County had gone five matches without a win (which is also true).

But Shaun Derry’s men have proved in recent weeks that they can hold their own against top half sides such as Peterborough United, Oldham Athletic and Chesterfield as they’ve nicked points off all three as well as Leyton Orient who have had one eye on the Russell Slade saga.

Visitors Gillingham are actually one point adrift of the mid-table sides Fleetwood Town and Crawley Town, but their home record at Priestfield Stadium where they have yet to be beaten this term, has a lot to do with their current league standing.

The Gills have actually won just twice from their last eight League One matches, and it’s probably no surprise that these were both gained on home turf against bottom club Crewe Alexandra and Peterborough United respectively.

However, Gillingham’s results on their travels have been below-par as their record of  0-1-4  4/11 testifies, and they have conceded the most number of goals on the road apart from the bottom two clubs in League One, Scunthorpe United and Crewe Alexandra (both conceded 13 goals).

Notts county are on a solid run at the moment and the Crewe result will have given them a timely boost ahead of today’s clash with Gillingham. The Gills meanwhile, have really struggled away from home for some time now and it’s worth mentioning that they’ve kept just one clean sheet from their last nine away matches. The hosts should at least avoid defeat here, and could even win this perhaps by a 1-0 margin.
