NOTTS CO v SCUNTHORPE – Pick: 1 AH0 – 28 March 2015

Magpies eye much-needed three points against Iron

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 28th March 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Notts County slumped to a third defeat in four matches last weekend when they were sent crashing to a 4-1 loss away at MK Dons but they do have a chance in their next home match against Scunthorpe United this Saturday.

Defeats to Swindon Town, Rochdale and MK Dons along with a 1-1 draw with Bradford City represent a tough run of fixtures for The Magpies while at their Meadow Lane ground they’ve registered just one league win from their last eleven played (which was a 2-1 home win over Crewe Alexandra).

Notts County’s overall home record stands at a disappointing  4-3-11  18/26 but they know this is a vital three points up fro grabs as they look to keep their heads above water (and the bottom four). Midfielder Garry Thompson (10 goals) looks their best bet for anytime goalscorer.

Scunthorpe United were sent packing at Bramall Lane on Tuesday night when they went down 4-0 against Sheffield United which handed The Iron a third defeat in their last four matches overall. In fact, Scunthorpe are now without a win from their last eight matches with defeats to Preston North End, Barnsley, Crewe, Rochdale and of course Sheffield United.

The story doesn’t get much better away from home as they’re without a win from their last six, conceding 14 goals and scoring just 4 in reply, while their overall record on the road stands at  5-6-8  29/36.

Only Crewe Alexandra (43 goals) have conceded more away goals than Scunthorpe in League One so far this season which gives the hosts Notts County a fighting chance here today I feel.

So, despite Notts County’s poor string of results lately, I’d advise against backing them for the straight win here, but the handily priced draw no bet option looks appealing. Notts County might squeeze out a narrow 1-0 win.
