Hard-working Nuneaton Town take on Alfreton Town at the Triton Showers Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the hosts look to climb away from the relegation zone with a win or perhaps a draw could do.

Despite sitting in 21^st place, Nuneaton have been solid on home ground and have lost just twice at home all season which were earlier on in the campaign against Ebbsfleet United and Gateshead back in August/September. Since then, Nuneaton have embarked on an impressive nine match unbeaten run which gives them more than just a glimmer of hope of staving off relegation in their comeback season in the non-league top flight.

Nuneaton’s home record stands at  4-6-2  19/15 and along with their wins over AFC Telford, Stockport County, Dartford and Tamworth on Boxing Day (winning 2-1 when they were trailing 0-1) is testament to their fighting spirit and refusal to give in, along with being hard to break down on home turf.

Visitors Alfreton also had a good win on Boxing Day when they beat Mansfield Town 2-1 away from home in a much needed win which removes them from any immediate relegation worries, but a loss to Nuneaton today could see them drop back into the dog-fight.

Alfreton’s away record stands at  5-3-4  14/18 and they’ve also recorded a recent win at Woking and a point at Hyde which just reminds Nuneaton of their possible danger on the road. Striker Clayton (9 goals), Bradley (6 goals, 3 assists) along with Law and Arnold supplying the ammunition are the danger men for the visitors and Nuneaton will need to have their wits about them to keep them at bay.

Sure, Alfreton Town have put in some good shifts recently, but with home advantage for Nuneaton I’m backing them with the round ball with a view that they might just nick this one perhaps 1-0 or a last-gasp 2-1 winner.
