NUNEATON v TELFORD – Pick: Both teams to score – 26 December 2014

Basement clash should see goals

National League Tips

Football – England – Conference Premier

Friday 26th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

It’s a battle of the basement dwellers next up as hosts and second from bottom club Nuneaton Town take on bottom club AFC Telford in a real ‘six-pointer’ on Boxing Day.

Nuneaton go into this clash on the back of four straight defeats at the hands of Kidderminster, Alfreton Town, Lincoln City and Halifax but they do have a chance of claiming all three points on home turf when they take on Conference strugglers Telford.

Nuneaton’s home record actually isn’t that bad considering their current predicament, and they’ve notched up five wins at home already within an overall record of  5-2-5  16/9. Three wins from their last six at home with wins over Lincoln City, Dover Athletic and Chester suggest they have a fighting chance of getting something here today.

Visitors AFC Telford also go into today’s match on the back of a three-match losing streak and indeed they’ve gone their last six without a win. Telford have gained just one point from the last 16 on offer thanks to a point against Grimsby Town in a 1-1 draw at their New Bucks Ground, while their away form continues to be a concern.

The Bucks’ away record stands at  1-2-8  10/25 with their solitary away win coming recently at high-flying Woking in an unexpected 3-1 win. Telford have since reverted to type as they’ve suffered back-to-back defeats at Barnet 1-3 and Chester 0-2.

The hosts will need to keep an eye on Telford’s leading goalscorer Gray (8 goals) who bagged a hat-trick against Eastleigh on Saturday.

Both teams will be desperate to take all three points in this important fixture but as both teams also possess very susceptible defences, I’ll back both teams to find the net in what could end up perhaps a 1-1 draw.
