OLDHAM v COVENTRY – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 21 October 2014

Latics look to heap more misery on Sky Blues

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 21st October 2014 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Oldham Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches at the weekend when they held 8th placed Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw away from home as The Latics moved up into 10th place.

Oldham have secured wins over the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United and Walsall amidst a number of draws as well it has to be said, but their overall home record stands at a steady  3-2-1  8/7 and they’re unbeaten in their last five at Boundary Park.

In addition, Oldham have won three of their last four on home turf and their leading goalscorer, Jonathan Forte (8 goals), formerly of Southampton, has been amongst the goals so far this term.

In fact, Forte has scored 5 in his last 7 matches, and is also Oldham’s penalty taker. He’s also been first goalscorer on no fewer than 6 occasions to date.

Onto visitors Coventry City, and the Sky Blues’ long-awaited return to their former Ricoh Arena (or the City of Coventry Stadium as it’s now known) hasn’t provided the spark for a Coventry revival despite back-to-back home wins immediately upon their return.

Coventry registered wins over Gillingham and Yeovil Town in their first two home matches back at their old home, but since then, things have turned sour for Steven Pressley’s men as they’ve now gone six matches without a win (losing five of those by the way).

Away from home, Coventry have continued to struggle as their overall record of  0-2-4  5/9 reflects, and they’ve lost their last three on their travels on the trot with defeats at Scunthorpe United, Rochdale and Crewe Alexandra (all of whom are mid-table or bottom half teams).

Oldham have picked up their game and are moving upwards while Coventry seem to lurch from one disaster to the next at the moment and have actually won just once in their last fifteen away matches – should be a 2-1 win for the hosts here but give the quarter ball in case it ends up a draw (in which case we lose just half the stake).
