OLDHAM v GILLINGHAM – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 13 September 2014

Oldham to extend Gills' poor away run

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 13th September 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Oldham Athletic stand every chance of extending their winning record to four matches in all competitions this afternoon when they host Gillingham at Boundary Park.

Oldham have racked up three wins recently with victories over Doncaster Rovers 2-0 away and last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town with a Capital One Cup win over Bradford City sandwiched in between. Oldham’s form has improved in recent weeks as they’d previously started the season with two defeats and two draws.

The Latics’ overall home form stands at  1-1-1  3/4 and no doubt they’ll be looking to add to the win tally this afternoon. With in-form former Southampton striker Jonathan Forte (5 goals) in goalscoring touch, Oldham stand a good chance of taking all three points here.

Visitors Gillingham were on the end of an emotional and rousing 0-1 defeat away at Coventry City last Friday night as the Sky Blues finally returned to their Ricoh Arena ground. But strip away all the emotion and the occasion, and Peter Taylor’s men have suffered a fourth straight defeat in League One.

The Gills currently sit in a bottom half position and it’s understandable to see why as they’ve lost all three of their away matches to date; 2-4 at MK Dons, 1-4 at Barnsley and 0-1 at Coventry City, their overall away record stands at a poor  0-0-3  3/9.

It’s also worth mentioning that Gillingham have won just twice in their last fifteen matches on their travels, and this is an area where they must improve if they want to secure at least a top half finish this time around.

As mentioned, Oldham have picked themselves up in recent weeks and with the goalscoring Forte up front, I fancy the hosts here to take the points although giving the quarter ball may be the best option.Oldham could take this perhaps 2-1.
