Something a little bit different next as I take a look at the Portuguese second tier as hosts and third placed Oliveirense take on struggling Maritimo B at their Estadio Carlos Osorio ground.
Oliveirense have been in good form this season and go into this match on the back of a five match unbeaten run which includes wins over Tondela, Atletico CP and Sporting Braga II recently along with draws against Desportivo Aves 0-0 away and an entertaining 3-3 draw at home with Academico Viseu.
The hosts’ overall home record reads 3-1-1 7/5 and they’ve failed to score on just one occasion on home turf, while overall, they’ve been involved in over 2.5 goals in their last three matches; 3-3 v Academico, 2-1 at Atletico CP and 2-1 v Sporting Braga II.
Visitors Maritimo B are currently situated in the bottom reaches of the Segunda Liga and are just two places and two points above the bottom three, having won just three league matches so far this season.
They’re also on a poor run of form right now as they’ve won just one league game in their last seven (and that was a 1-0 win away at bottom club Trofense), and they’ve also been involved in a number of high-scoring defeats recently such as 0-3 at Olhanense, 1-3 at home to Beira-Mar, 2-3 at home to Tondela, 0-3 away at Academica and a heavy 2-5 loss at home to Atletico CP last time out.
Maritimo’s away record stands at 2-0-3 3/8, but I’m sure we can count on them to concede a couple of goals tonight, if not three, but if they nick one themselves then all well and good.
I believe this encounter should see a few goals then with hosts Oliveirense keen to secure the points and capable of scoring goals in the process. A home win perhaps 3-0 or 2-1 is on the cards here today but back the overs.
