Orlando City take on second placed Columbus Crew tonight in their all-Eastern Conference clash at Complex Field 17 with the hosts looking to halt a three-match losing streak.
Orlando have lost their last three MLS encounters on the trot with defeats to FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls and New York City, where they’ve conceded 9 goals and scored just 3 in reply. However, they will go into tonight’s home match with a glimmer of hope as Columbus have struggled away from home all season so far.
Orlando’s overall home record stands at 3-3-5 12/13 and although they’ve lost their last two on the trot on home soil, they’ve also registered wins over LA Galaxy 4-0, DC United 1-0 and Colorado Rapids 2-0, so they still pose a threat.
Visitors Columbus Crew threw away two points in last weekend’s exciting but frustrating 3-3 draw with Toronto. The Crew found themselves in command of the match as they held what seemed to be an unassailable 3-0 lead, but somehow they contrived to concede three soft goals to give Toronto an unexpected point.
It’ll be interesting to see how Columbus respond to that bitterly disappointing result as they make their way to Orlando on the back of just one defeat from their last eight matches overall, but their away form has been very poor in contrast.
Columbus Crew hold the second worst away record of all the teams situated in the play-off positions with an overall record of 1-4-5 7/17 with their one success on the road being a recent 1-0 win at bottom club Chicago Fire.
Given Columbus’ away woes this term, I’ll back the hosts Orlando City to grab at least a draw here to stop the rot but I recommend the round ball on the home side. Orlando might even sneak a 1-0 win.
