Fifth placed Perth Glory were held to another draw on New Years Day when they drew 1-1 away at Western Sydney Wanderers which actually would have been considered a solid result for Kenny Lowe’s side, but it’s now been three draws from their last six matches overall.
In addition, Perth have failed to win any of their last six A-League encounters but they still hold a place in the top six ahead of their clash with Wellington Phoenix at their nib Stadium this evening. The Glory will be keen to bounce back from recent back-to-back defeats on home turf to Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC, the latter resulting in a heavy 4-1 defeat.
Perth Glory’s overall home record stands at an indifferent 2-2-2 12/12 but they did manage a 2-0 home win over tonight’s opponents, Wellington Phoenix, the last time these two teams met in Western Australia with Perth winning 2-0.
Visitors Wellington Phoenix sit just outside the top six but are only two points adrift of Perth Glory as they make their long trek from New Zealand over to Perth for Thursday evening’s encounter. Wellington have been in reasonable form of late as they come into this game on the back of a four-match unbeaten sequence.
A 3-0 home win over Central Coast Mariners was followed up with three draws on the trot against Western Sydney Wanderers, Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United, but on the road the Kiwi outfit have continued to struggle.
An away record of 1-1-4 6/14 tells its own story with their one success so far being a 2-0 win at second from bottom club Central Coast Mariners.
