PETERBOROUGH v SHEFF UTD – Pick: 1 AH0 – 19 August 2014

Posh to catch Blades cold

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Tuesday 19th August 2014 – Kickoff: 1930hrs

Peterborough United will be looking to register a third successive League One win on Tuesday night when they entertain Sheffield United at London Road.

Back-to-back early wins over Rochdale 1-0 away and Saturday’s home win over MK Dons 3-2 has got Darren Ferguson’s men off to a flying start despite the departure of last season’s leading goalscorer Assombalonga who has since been signed by Championship side Nottingham Forest.

However, when one door closes, another one opens and an opportunity for striker Kyle Vassell to emerge out of Assombalonga’s shadow, and he’s grasped his chance well so far having scored 3 goals in 2 league matches so far.

The Posh will be looking for at least another play-off place this term and will be wanting to go one step better than their play-off semi final exit to Leyton Orient where they lost over two legs in a 2-3 defeat.

Visitors Sheffield United were one of the pre-season favourites for promotion up to the Championship but the early signs are far from that standard for Nigel Clough’s men as they’ve suffered two early defeats at home to Bristol City 1-2 in the season opener and Saturday’s 0-1 away defeat at Coventry City.

In between these losses, they did secure their passage into the second round of the Capital One Cup with a 2-1 home win over League Two outfit Mansfield Town, but the pressure will be turned up another notch should they suffer a third successive defeat away at Peterborough tonight.

To wrap up, Peterborough United are in good early form in League One and will be keen to make home advantage count against a susceptible Sheffield United side, and the time is right to strike for The Posh. I’ll back the hosts to at least avoid defeat here and take the round ball on them. Peterborough may well win this perhaps 2-1.
