PLYMOUTH v CARLISLE – Pick: 1 AH0 – 18 October 2014

Pilgrims might edge close one with Cumbrians

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 18th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Plymouth Argyle will be looking for a third consecutive win in League Two when they return to their Home Park ground for this afternoon’s clash against Carlisle United.

Back-to-back wins over Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers have lifted John Sheridan’s side into one of the play-off positions (6th) and with another home match in prospect against a side who have struggled for form on the road so far, another three points looks to be on their way to the Devon outfit.

Plymouth’s home record has been solid so far this term with overall stats of  4-1-1  9/2 which includes wins over 5th placed Southend United, Hartlepool United and 8th placed Shrewsbury Town along with a point against Stevenage, although their most celebrated victory would have been their convincing 3-0 win over local rivals Exeter City at the start of the campaign!

Pilgrims striker Reuben Reid (5 goals) loks a good bet for anytime goalscorer for Plymouth.

Visitors Carlisle United have endured a bit of a torrid time in the start of their League Two campaign having been relegated from League One at the end of last season, and a bad start to this term has seen former manager Graham Kavanagh lose his job.

Former Notts County manager Keith Curle has taken over the hot seat at The Cumbrians and has seen his side respond immediately by winning their last three league matches on the bounce with wins over fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers, Hartlepool United and Stevenage.

I thought Curle did a good job at Notts County before he was (in my opinion) prematurely sacked, and he has a good chance of adding to his lower league CV here with Carlisle United who have made an early revival under his guidance.

If this match had been a few weeks ago, I’d have backed Plymouth for the straight win without hesitation, and although this is probably Carlisle’s biggest test since new manager Curle took over, I recommend backing The Pilgrims with just the dew no bet option here as i can’t rule out Carlisle perhaps nicking a point. Plymouth might just edge it 2-1 if they win.
