PLYMOUTH v WYCOMBE – Pick: X – 09 May 2015

Honours even at Home Park

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 9th May 2015 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Plymouth Argyle became only the second team throughout the whole regular season of League Two to beat Shrewsbury Town at their Greenhous Stadium when they overcame The Shrews in a 2-0 win last Saturday.

That impressive win also earned The Pilgrims a ticket for the play-offs and they’ll head into tonight’s first leg against Wycombe Wanderers in positive mood with home advantage at their Home Park this evening. In their last home match of the season, Plymouth beat Tranmere Rovers 3-2 which condemned Rovers to the Conference, and they’ll no doubt be looking for more of the same against Wycombe.

Plymouth’s overall home record finished up on  13-6-4  34/14 but although this was a pretty impressive record on the whole on home turf, their record at home against top third opposition was less convincing. In addition, both teams have scored in Plymouth’s last four home matches on the trot.

Visitors Wycombe Wanderers narrowly missed out on an automatic promotion place to third placed Bury despite registering a useful 3-2 win away at Northampton Town on the last day of the season. Now Wycombe must focus on a two-legged affair against Plymouth to ensure their passage through to the final.

However, they know this won’t be an easy task despite having lost just once in their last sixteen matches on their travels, while their overall away record finished up at  13-8-2  37/20. The Chairboys’ record away at top third opposition stood at  2-3-2  9/8 and they drew three of their last four against such opposition with stalemates against Shrewsbury Town, Bury and Southend United.

With so much at stake for both clubs at the end of a very long season, I’m backing that both teams will be desperate to remain in the tie for the second leg at Adams Park next Thursday, so I’ll back a low-scoring draw here, perhaps 0-0 or 1-1.
