Port Vale will be hoping that home advantage will bring them further success at Vale Park as they entertain third from bottom club Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night as they look to keep pace with the play-off pack in League One.
Despite losing their last three away matches on the trot, Vale’s form on home turf has remained relatively strong by comparison as they’ve suffered just one defeat so far in their own backyard which was a 2-0 loss to Coventry City.
But Port Vale possess the second best home record in the division with stats of 6-2-1 16/9 under their belts and they beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 last time out at Vale Park so they’ll be looking to build upon this encouraging result here.
Visitors Oldham Athletic sit third from bottom in League One as they still remain in the relegation zone following a run of four league matches without a win as they slumped to another defeat away at Scunthorpe 1-0 on the weekend.
Additional defeats against Bristol Rovers and Rochdale along with a point against AFC Wimbledon in a 0-0 stalemate at home have resulted in The Latics occupying a disappointing bottom four place in the division ahead of their trip to Port Vale tonight.
Oldham’s overall away record reads a so-so 2-3-4 5/10 but they’ve lost their last three away matches on the trot with defeats suffered at Bolton Wanderers, Rochdale and Scunthorpe United (all to nil) I might add.
With Oldham having failed to score in five of their nine away matches to date, I’ll back Port Vale to get at least a point here at good odds.
