PORTSMOUTH v ACCRINGTON – Pick: 1 AH-0.25 – 13 December 2014

Pompey to chime in with three points at Fratton Park

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 13th December 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Despite losing their last four matches on the trot away from home, Portsmouth will go into today’s clash at Fratton Park against Accrington Stanley in confident mood as they search for all three points to keep them in touch with the play-off pack.

Results on their travels have not been good for Andy Awford’s side so far this season and they have their home form to thank for their current mid-table position which is still, quite frankly, a disappointing position for the south coast club following their strong run towards the end of last season.

I really expected Pompey to push on in this campaign and seriously challenge for at least a play-off spot but so far this hasn’t quite materialised. However, their form at Fratton Park has been strong as they possess an overall record of  6-2-1  18/6 and they’ve won their last three on the trot on home turf.

Midfielder Wallace (8 goals) and striker Westcarr (4 goals) are the most likely goalscorers, and along with Portsmouth’s four clean sheets to date, they look another good home bet here.

Visitors Accrington Stanley sit just one league place below Portsmouth and are level on points with today’s hosts, but their inconsistent results have prevented Accrington from making an impression upon the top half of League Two so far.

Manager John Coleman has steadied the ship since his arrival in mid-September for his second stint at the club which has seen his side rise from 18th place up to their current standing of 13th, but their away record still remains more miss than hit as their current record of  2-1-6  11/19 shows.

Stanley have lost two of their last three away matches with defeats at Stevenage and Carlisle United whilst taking a good point away at Rodney Parade in a 1-1 draw with Newport County. But three clean sheets from their last 17 away matches tells its own story, and their defence could well be put to the sword once again this afternoon.

Portsmouth’s home record is solid enough for me to give the quarter ball here, and I’m confident that the Pompey chimes will be ringing once again come the final whistle. Portsmouth to edge this perhaps 2-1.
