League One/Two Tips

PORTSMOUTH v EXETER CITY

Football – England – League Two Betting Tips

Portsmouth moved top of League Two at the weekend following a 2-1 win away at Bristol Rovers which also extended their unbeaten run to nine matches without defeat in the English fourth tier. They now return to their beloved Fratton Park ground tonight when they take on mid-table Exeter City with the hosts looking to pull away at the top of the division.

It’s been a long haul for the south-coast side who had previously enjoyed Premier League football as well as reaching the FA Cup final not so long ago. I personally have a soft spot for the club as my Dad has always supported them since their glory days back in the 1950’s and I’ve stood with him on the terraces in the early eighties when Pompey were in a similar position to now.

Portsmouth currently hold a slender one point lead over second placed Wycombe Wanderers but Pompey have been pretty steady on home turf so far this season having registered wins over Dagenham & Redbridge 3-0 and Barnet 3-1 along with points against Morecambe and Accrington Stanley.

Portsmouth’s home record stands at  2-2-0  9/4 and they’re unbeaten in their last five matches at Fratton Park.

Visitors Exeter City come into tonight’s encounter on the back of two consecutive defeats to Accrington Stanley and Wycombe Wanderers and the west country outfit have dropped down to 14th place in League Two as a result.

The Grecians now face a tough trip along the south coast where they’ll be looking to be the first team to defeat the hosts in the division, but with just one win from their last seven away matches (a record that extends back into the latter stages of last season), Exeter look to have their work cut out to get anything at Fratton Park.

Exeter’s away record this term stands at  1-0-3  5/10 with only Barnet (11 goals against) conceding more than them away from home in League Two. Indeed, Exeter have conceded in each of their last ten away trips, and have let in 2 goals or more on seven occasions during this ten-match sequence.

The signs point towards a home win here then, and Portsmouth could take the spoils with perhaps a 2-1 win tonight.
