Portsmouth bounced back from an unexpected 3-0 defeat to Newport County with a useful point away at mid-table Mansfield Town in a 1-1 draw last weekend to keep their play-off ambitions on track.
However, Pompey will be more than aware that they have the likes of Wycombe and AFC Wimbledon breathing down the play-off pack’s necks and they cannot afford to slip up at Fratton Park this afternoon when they play host to Notts County who are under a new manager.
Portsmouth’s home record stands at 7-7-4 29/14 and they’re currently sitting in sixth place in League Two, but all three points today could provide valuable breathing space between themselves and the chasing teams.
Visitors Notts County recently appointed Mark Cooper in the Meadow Lane hot-seat and although he has a well respected tenure in the lower divisions, he has a tough job of turning The Magpies around following three straight defeats recently to Bristol Rovers, Yeovil Town and Exeter City.
And although Cooper has promised to bring back exciting football at Meadow Lane he may well need to pull back on the reigns at Fratton Park on Good Friday as his first priority will be to end this losing run.
Notts County’s away record stands at a poor 4-4-10 20/31 and they’ve also lost their last three matches on the road too as confidence has slowly drained away from the Nottingham outfit.
