PSV will be keen to keep up with early Dutch Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord in their Sunday lunchtime clash with Groningen at their Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, as Feyenoord have taken an early jump at the top of the division.
Having won their first three league matches of the new Eredivisie season though, PSV look likely to grab a fourth win at Groningen’s expense as the hosts have hit the ground running in this new term – wins over Utrecht away, AZ Alkmaar at home and last weekend’s heavy defeat upon PEC Zwolle on the road have set them up nicely for this encounter.
In fact, PSV have won their last nine Eredivisie matches on the trot, while on home turf they’ve registered four wins on the trot. PSV have also beaten Groningen in their last two encounters at the Philips Stadion winning 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. Visitors Groningen have experienced a disastrous start to their new Eredivisie campaign as they currently sit bottom of the Dutch top flight following defeat in each of their first three league matches; losses to Feyenoord, Excelsior and Twente have left them bottom of the pile with a tough trip to PSV ahead of them today.
Groningen have also shipped a total of 11 goals already in these three opening games of the new season which will be a serious concern for their manager Faber as he looks for his side to attempt to contain a rampant and in-form PSV outfit this afternoon.
Groningen finished in a creditable 7th place at the end of last season, but their away record finished up on a disappointing 4-5-8 16/29 and it could be a similar story this time around.
