Reading secured a point away from home on the weekend as they held a decidedly off-colour QPR to a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road on the back of a previous 1-1 draw at home with Derby County.

The Royals are now within striking distance of the play-off pack as they’ve put together a useful run of results with just one defeat suffered from their last nine matches overall in the Championship which includes wins against Cardiff city, Ipswich Town, Barnsley and Huddersfield Town.

Reading’s overall home record stands at  3-3-0  7/4 and they still remain unbeaten at the Madejski Stadium under the guidance of former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam with Reading, perhaps unsurprisingly, possessing the third best defensive record at home in the division.

Visitors Aston Villa are finding life in the English second tier extremely difficult to come to terms with as the west midlands club find themselves fifth from bottom in the Championship despite harbouring ambitions of a swift return to the Premier League this season following relegation at the end of last term.

It’s now ten league matches without a win for the once famous club, and former Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce has taken over the reigns at Villa Park as he attempts to turn the club’s fortunes around. Bruce has cited a lack of fitness for Villa’s poor start to this campaign, as his side have taken the lead in 7 of their 12 matches to date but going on to win just once.

Villa have also failed to win any of their six away matches in the Championship to date as they take a fragile looking away record of  0-3-3  2/7 to Berkshire on Tuesday night, and they are not in the least guaranteed of anything at Reading here.
