Real Madrid head into Tuesday night’s Champions League second leg in the box-seat as they hold a vital two-goal lead following their 2-0 win in Rome three weeks ago, and are now just ninety minutes away from progressing through to the quarter-finals.
Real Madrid have been in mercurial form in the elite european competition in recent matches as the goals have flowed following a 4-3 win away at Shakhtar Donetsk, an 8-0 win at home over Malmo and the recent 2-0 win away at Rome.
Of course, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema up front help a lot with goals at the forefront of their fluid, attacking style and this pair have scored a total of 46 goals between them so far this season.
Visitors Roma have also been in great goalscoring form in Serie A in recent matches despite their 2-0 loss at home to tonight’s opponents in the first leg of the round of 16. Wins over Carpi, Palermo, Empoli and Fiorentina have seen Roma score 15 goals and concede just 3 in reply.
However, Roma have not enjoyed any sort of success in the Champions League as they’ve managed just one win from their last 12 matches at this level which was a 3-2 home win over Bayer Leverkusen back in November last year.
And with a run of eight matches away from home without a win, you have to go all the way back to November 2010 for Roma’s last away win which was a 3-2 win away at Basel.
