Real Sociedad will be keen to not let their season just fizzle out this afternoon when they play their last home match of the season against struggling Granada, following a 2-0 loss away at Barcelona last weekend.
Manager David Moyes has made a successful start to his Spanish career at the helm of Sociedad all things considered, but he’ll be keen for his troops to extend their impressive record on home turf this afternoon given their opponents’ current situation. Real Sociedad have strung together an eight-match unbeaten run which includes wins over Einar, Sevilla, Espanyol, Cordoba and Levante while their overall home record stands at a solid 9-5-4 29/18.
The hosts have kept six clean sheets and have lost just once in their last thirteen matches on home turf as Moyes has predictably tightened things up at the back as his first priority (and done a good job too).
Granada have recently given themselves a crucial relegation lifeline following back-to-back wins over Getafe and Cordoba (who, it must be said, are both in the bottom half of La Liga), but nevertheless, the visitors head into today’s clash with a glimmer of hope of avoiding relegation with two matches remaining.
They’re currently sitting in the bottom three but are now level on points with Deportivo la Coruna and just one point adrift of Almeria as they prepare to try and get something at Real Sociedad today. Incidentally, their away record reads a below-par 2-4-12 13/47 with their main problem being a lack of goals on their travels.
Granada have failed to score in seven of their away matches to date and along with Algeria and Getafe, have suffered the most away defeats in La Liga this season.
This last point makes me lean towards Real Sociedad but I definitely want the draw on my side as much as possible, hence my handicap pick. Could be a narrow 1-0 win for the hosts.
