Rennes and Saint Etienne to hit the back of the net

RENNES v SAINT ETIENNE

Football – France – Ligue 1 Betting Tips

Rennes were handed out a heavy 4-0 defeat last time out in the French Ligue 1 away at Bordeaux which halted their progress up the league table, but a win tonight could see them jump up into the Champions League qualifier spot, depending on other results of course.

Prior to the defeat at Bordeaux, Rennes had put together a useful six-match unbeaten run in the French top flight which included wins over Guingamp, Troyes and Gazelec Ajaccio as well as sharing the points away at Saint Etienne back in early December in a 1-1 draw.

Rennes’ home form has been dominated by stalemates as their overall record at their Roazhon Park of  3-5-3  13/14 shows, but I’m more interested in the fact that on 7 occasions out of their 11 home matches to date, both teams have scored in the final result.

Visitors Saint Etienne also lost in their last match as they went down 2-0 at home to mighty PSG and tonight’s visitors face a tricky trip away at Rennes this evening as they look to bounce back from that last defeat.

Saint Etienne have posted mixed results lately with an earlier loss to Nantes away from home, but have also managed wins over Angers and Lyon at home along with a 1-1 draw away at Reims. But Saint Etienne’s form away form home has been dismal in the past few weeks as they’ve now gone seven matches without a win on their travels.

Saint Etienne’s away record stands at  3-1-7  8/16 with 5 of their 11 away matches seeing both teams hit the back of the net.

Rennes look the liklelier of the teams to win tonight, but I do think Saint Etienne will also score.
