Following back-to-back defeats recently in the Argentinian Primera Division, third placed River Plate will be desperate to finally get over the line here tonight in terms of Copa Libertadores qualification, when they take on fourth from bottom club, Aldosivi.
With the likes of Estudiantes, Newells Old Boys, Independiente and Racing Club hot on their heels, River Plate know they can’t afford another slip-up at their Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, after losses to San Lorenzo and Racing Club in recent games.
However, the hosts hold a reasonable home record of 7-5-2 24/13 and have suffered just one defeat from their last seven on home soil. Look for forwards Driussi (17 goals) and Alario (12 goals) to combine together this evening and make the going hard for the visitors.
Visitors Aldosivi suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at home to Argentinian giants Boca Juniors last time out, and indeed, Aldosivi have recorded just one Primera Division win from their last 11 matches overall, and they duly sit amongst the relegation candidates.
That rare win was a surprising 1-0 win away at fourth placed San Lorenzo, but it seems very unlikely they’ll be able to make lightning strike twice against River Plate this evening, given their overall away record stands at a poor 2-6-6 6/12.
Poor in terms of goals scored on the road – only third from bottom club Quilmes (5 goals) have scored fewer goals away from home than Aldosivi so far this term, and they’ve failed to score on seven occasions to date.
Curiously, River Plate have failed to beat Aldosivi in any of their previous four encounters, but I’m expecting them to buck this trend this evening.
