It’s a trip over to South America next as I focus on the Argentinian Primera Division with hosts and 8th placed River Plate taking on second from bottom club Belgrano at their Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti with the home side looking to consolidate their Copa Sudamericana position.
River Plate have won two of their last three matches in the Argentinian top flight with wins over Olimpo and Lanus along with a draw against Union Santa Fe. Although recent results have been patchy, River Plate will be keen to register another three points here today to maintain their push for at least a top eight finish.
River Plate also hold a good home record which stands at 4-3-1 13/7 with their one defeat on home turf so far being a 4-2 loss to league leaders Boca Juniors, but the home side have striker and leading goalscorer Driussi (10 goals) in their ranks.
Visitors Belgrano sit second from bottom in the Argentina Primera Division with just two league wins under their belts ahead of their trip to River Plate today. They recently ended a disappointing 11-game run without a win last time out though as they recorded a 2-0 home win over sixth placed Racing Club.
Belgrano’s best chances appear to be when they’re on home turf as they’ve also registered five draws, while away from home, their record stands at a poor 1-2-4 5/10 as goals have been hard to come by on their travels so far this season.
Indeed, Belgrano’s results away from home have been lacklustre for some time as they’ve gained just one victory from their last 15 matches on the road, failing to score in 7 of these.
