Millers and Wolves to continue goal-glut

Saturday 16th August 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Two of last season’s League One promoted clubs meet in this Saturday’s round of Championship matches with hosts Rotherham United entertaining Wolves at the New York Stadium.

Rotherham United had a magnificent season last term under controversial manager Steve Evans but they now face the big challenge of retaining their Championship status in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. They started their new Championship campaign with a narrow 0-1 defeat away at Derby County last weekend, but they have home advantage for this Saturday against one of their familiar foes from last season.

Last season’s fixtures against Wolves dished up an amazing 16 goals with a 3-3 draw at home and a 4-6 loss at Molineux, and I’m backing further goals here this afternoon. The Millers’ attacking personnel of Agard, Revell and Derbyshire along with the devilish deliveries from midfielder Pringle should cause plenty of problems for many a team this season, including Wolves today.

Wolves began life back in the Championship with a 1-0 home win over relegated Norwich City in Kenny Jackett’s new-look side that will be keen to at least stay put this time around. The additional signings of midfielder Tommy Rowe from Peterborough United and Dutch winger van La Parra looked bright in the Norwich match and van La Parra in particular could cause serious problems once he gets his crossing radar tuned up.

Playmaker Bakary Sako should create plenty of chances for the likes of Dicko, Doyle and Clarke to convert in front of an expectant midlands crowd, and if Wolves can string together a few wins on the trot, then expect the crowds to swell and momentum to build under the Jackett influence.

Rotherham will be confident though that they can win more than their fair share of home matches this term, and with an attacking Wolves unit visiting today, I expect to see both teams score in this one which could be another entertaining score-draw; could be perhaps a 1-1 or 2-2 draw.
