SALISBURY v CAMBRIDGE – Pick: X – 26 March 2014

Whites and U's set for another stalemate

National League Tips

Football – England – Skrill Premier

Wednesday 26th March 2014 – Kickoff:  1945hrs

Mid-table Salisbury City will be keen to close the gap on the play-off pack when they entertain 2nd placed Cambridge United at their Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Wednesday night, as there are no other matches on in the Skrill Premier this evening.

With just one win from their last seven though, Salisbury will have their work cut out to get all three points tonight I fancy, particularly on the back of three draws (Luton Town, Gateshead and Wrexham) and two defeats (away at Grimsby Town and Forest Green Rovers). But home form has been very solid for The Whites with an overall record on home turf of  12-5-2  29/15 and they’re unbeaten in their last eight with wins over Barnet, Dartford, Nuneaton Town and Woking.

One thing to bear in mind though is that from these last eight matches there have been four draws and the draw has been prevalent in Salisbury’s home matches against top half opposition with a record of  4-4-1  10/8.

Visitors Cambridge United have lost just once in their last five matches which was a 2-3 loss away at Forest Green Rovers but they’ve also registered wins over Kidderminster 5-1 and Welling United 2-1 although these were both at Abbey Stadium.

Focusing on Cambridge’s away results now and they’ve recently suffered back-to-back defeats with losses at Braintree Town and Forest Green along with draws at Halifax and Dartford. In between the stalemates, Cambridge recorded a 1-0 win at Tamworth but overall The U’s’ away results have also been littered with draws as their overall away record of  4-9-4  16/16 shows.

In addition, Cambridge’s record away from home at top half opposition stands at  1-5-2  7/8, and again you can see that the draw features highly with their away results.

In short, both sides have struggled to put together any sort of meaningful winning streaks with the draw featuring highly in both teams sets of results. I’ll therefore back the value in this one and go for another stalemate, perhaps 1-1.
