San Lorenzo currently sit top of the Argentinian Primera Division albeit on better goal difference over second placed Boca Juniors, but they have the chance to pull three points clear with a win this afternoon against struggling side Crucero del Norte.
San Lorenzo have chalked up a nine-match unbeaten streak going into today’s encounter on the back of recent wins over Arsenal and Gimnasia La Plata, while their home form continues to go from strength to strength.
The hosts have produced an impressive record at their Estadio Pedro Bidegaín where they possess a record of 8-1-1 19/3 and they’ve won seven of their last eight on home turf. The attacking trio of Cauteruccio (8 goals), Matos (5 goals) and Villalba (4 goals) are expected to feature again tonight and cause the visitors’ defence some real headaches.
Onto Crucero del Norte then, and they find themselves in a real mess down near the foot of the Argentinian Primera Division, currently sitting third from bottom and just three points ahead of bottom placed club Nueva Chicago.
Crucero’s recent form suggests they’re more than likely to struggle at San Lorenzo this afternoon following a run of four matches without a win overall having lost three of their last four with losses to Godoy Cruz, Estudiantes and Gimnasia La Plata, but they did manage a point at home to fellow strugglers Huracan in a 3-3 draw.
But it’s Crucero’s away form that catches the eye (and not for the right reasons) as they’ve lost all nine of their matches on the road so far with an appalling record of 0-0-9 6/21 along with having the worst defensive record away from home in the division.
Given San Lorenzo’s strong home form and tight defence, along with Crucero’s poor away form and leaky at the back, I’ll back the hosts to be ahead in the first half and maintain their lead – could be a 2-0 win for San Lorenzo here.
