San Martin San Juan return to their home ground for this afternoon’s clash with struggling Huracan following consecutive away matches at Estudiantes in both the Primera Division and Copa Argentina.
The recent double-header with Estudiantes saw San Martin earn a point in a 0-0 draw in the league but they lost out on penalties in the ensuing encounter as they dropped out of the domestic cup competition. However, San Martin have lost just once in their last seven matches overall in the Primera Division.
San Martin’s overall home record stands at 2-5-0 10/6 and they remain unbeaten at their Estadio Ingeniero Hilario Sánchez ground having registered wins over 7th placed Tigre and struggling Olimpo in 3-1 and 2-0 wins respectively.
Visitors Huracan currently sit 24th in the 30-team regular division but they’re on a four-match unbeaten run heading into today’s clash with San Martin having drawn three of the last four matches.
Stalemates with Temperley, Colon and Defensa y Justice along with a win over Atletico Rafaela have enabled them to avoid being sucked into the lower reaches of the division, but they’ve yet to register a win on their travels so far this season.
An overall away record of 0-3-5 4/11 doesn’t exactly strike fear into home teams’ hearts, particularly having failed to score in four of their eight away matches to date. In addition, Huracan have failed to win an away match at this level for 24 matches!
Given Huracan’s poor away record, I’ll back San Martin to at least avoid defeat here and will back them with the round ball. Could be a 1-0 win for the hosts.
