The Estádio Urbano Caldeira is the venue in Sao Paulo which sees this bottom half clash between hosts Santos and visitors Botafogo as they look to kick-start their season with three points which could take either side into the top half of the Brazilian Serie A.
Santos have managed just one win so far in this new season in the Brazilian top flight, which was a 2-1 home win over Coritiba, but they head into tonight’s clash looking to avoid a third consecutive Serie A loss having previously lost back-to-back matches against Internacional and Corinthians.
However, these recent defeats were suffered against two of the top three clubs in Serie A at the moment, and they now return to home turf to take on fellow strugglers Botafogo tonight who they’ve beaten in their last two encounters at the Estádio Urbano Caldeira, winning 2-0 and 5-0 respectively.
Visitors Botafogo find themselves in the bottom four of the Serie A table also with just one win under their belts so far in these early stages of the Brazilian domestic season. Their one success so far was a 2-1 home win over Atletico PR at their Estádio Nilton Santos ground in Rio de Janeiro.
But they too head into tonight’s clash on the back of two recent defeats to Fluminense and Cruzeiro, while their early away record stands at 0-1-1 1/2 with their form on their travels continuing to disappoint.
Botafogo have now gone 16 matches without a win away from home at this level, which includes having lost seven of their last eight on their away trips.
I’ll therefore give the quarter-ball on Santos here who look the more likely to get a result.
