Much-improved Santos take on mid-table outfit Chapecoense in Sao Paulo on Thursday night as the hosts look to extend their unbeaten run in the Brazilian Serie A to eight matches and to register a third win on the trot.
Recent back-to-back wins over Avai 5-2 and Cruzeiro 1-0 (away from home) have set them up nicely for this evening’s clash against Chapecoense, and having shown blistering home form in the past few weeks (where Santos have won their last five matches on the trot on home turf), they look a good bet to take all three points tonight.
Santos’ home form stands at a solid-looking 7-2-1 21/9 which has been assisted by their leading goalscorer Ricardo Oliveira who has notched 12 goals so far this season and heads the goalscoring charts in Serie A.
Visitors Chapecoense have registered just one Serie A win from their last six matches which has produced the success at home against Atletico Mineiro, but their last two matches have resulted in defeats against Coritiba and Corinthians.
Chape come up against another in-form team tonight in the shape of Santos, and with an ordinary-looking away form in the past few weeks, the visitors could struggle to get anything from this match also.
Chapecoense’s away record stands at 1-2-7 3/11 and they’ve now gone six matches on the road without success. In addition, they’ve failed to score in each of their last four away matches as the goals on their travels seem to have well and truly dried up!
In short, I’m expecting a home win here and for extra value I’ll throw in the -1 asian line as well with Santos taking this perhaps 2-0.
