Fifth placed Sassuolo will be looking to extend their unbeaten run on home turf this afternoon when they take on bottom club Carpi at their Stadio Città del Tricolore ground with a valuable three points up for grabs for both sides.
Sassuolo have posted mixed results in recent weeks with the general trend being wins at home, but defeats on their travels if their last five games are anything to go by. Perhaps more importantly though, is the fact that they’ve registered a couple of block-buster home wins recently with wins over Lazio and Juventus.
Any side that does this (along with a 2-1 win over Napoli) deserves to be taken very seriously when playing at home, let alone against bottom of Serie A, and with a record of 3-2-0 8/5 to their name, they look a likely bet for another three points this afternoon.
Visitors Carpi are sitting bottom of the Italian top flight following a run of four matches without a win which could hardly have helped their cause – this sequence includes three defeats to Atalanta, Bologna and Frosinone, the latter two hardly being the leading lights of Serie A, so further trouble could be ahead this afternoon.
Away from home, Carpi have lost four of their first five matches on the road with defeats at Sampdoria, Roma, Atalanta and Bologna amidst an overall record of 0-1-4 6/17 and in addition, they possess the leakiest defence away from home in the division to date.
Unless Carpi’s away record improves, this could be a very short and not so sweet tenure in Serie A for today’s visitors.
I believe Sassuolo can win here quite comfortably and extend their unbeaten run at home to six matches.
