SCUNTHORPE v NOTTS CO – Pick: 2 AH0 – 25 October 2014

Magpies could steal points from Iron

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League One

Saturday 25th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Scunthorpe United currently sit bottom of League One but they’re unbeaten in their last three with a win at Gillingham 3-0 at Priestfield Stadium and draws against Colchester United and Port Vale away on Tuesday night.

Despite having home advantage this afternoon at Glanford Park, Scunthorpe are the underdogs in this one as they face-off against an in-form Notts County side who have jumped into one of the play-off positions.

Scunthorpe’s overall home record stands at  2-1-4  7/13 with their two wins on home soil coming against struggling midlands pair Walsall and Coventry City (both by 2-1 scorelines), along with a point against Colchester United who also occupy a bottom half position. Defeats to Preston North End and Fleetwood Town suggest that they could still struggle again here today against a top six outfit.

Notts County scored an important three points away at Barnsley in a 3-2 win on Tuesday night to hand them a fifth straight win in all competitions, and in League One, The Magpies are unbeaten in their last eight, having won their last four on the bounce.

Back-to-back home wins against Gillingham and Crawley Town have been book-ended by wins on the road at Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley, while their overall away record stands at an impressive  3-3-0  10/4, remaining unbeaten even with trips away at 3rd placed Preston North End 1-1, 2nd placed Peterborough United 0-0 and top half Chesterfield 1-1.

Manager Shaun Derry, a former defender himself, has built Notts County’s success so far on the back of a solid defensive unit, and there’s to be more of the same here today I fancy.

Until Scunthorpe can prove they can mix it with the top teams on home turf, and until Notts County let me down on the road, I’ll back The Magpies again with the well-priced round ball here today – they could even steal the points again in perhaps a 1-0 win.
