Group B is up next in the Africa Cup of Nations, and Senegal head into Thursday night’s clash with Zimbabwe having secured a valuable three points in their opening group match with a 2-0 win over Tunisia.
Senegal have now won their last three matches on the trot in all competitions, and an impressive nine of their last ten matches overall, so confidence must be very high in the Senegalese camp right now, and I can see no reason why they can’t maintain this excellent form again here this evening.
In addition, Senegal have also registered a recent 2-0 win over tonight’s opponents Zimbabwe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers back in January, so they’ll no doubt be confident of further success this evening. Attacking trio, Diouf, Mane and Keita should pose a few problems here.
Zimbabwe have also enjoyed a promising run of form lately as they come into this evening’s clash on the back of a five-match run without defeat following wins over Zambia and Tanzania along with draws against Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Algeria.
The latter was a very creditable 2-2 draw in their opening match in Group B, and if they can take something from this encounter, it would really set them up for their final group match against Tunisia.
However, it’s been 11 years since Zimbabwe last appeared in the Africa Cup of Nations and their pedigree at this level isn’t great to be honest; just two wins from their seven matches played with wins over Algeria and Ghana is scant return, and I do fancy them to struggle against Senegal here despite their encouraging start to this year’s tournament.
