Fourth placed Sevilla will have their sights set on taking all three points here this evening when they take on Europa League dark horses Celta Vigo at their Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán which would see them move level on points with Atletico Madrid who occupy the last remaining automatic Champions League spot.
As it stands, Sevilla occupy the Champions League qualifier spot and hold a five point cushion ahead of Villarreal, but with a three game run without defeat which includes wins over Deportivo la Coruna and Granada in recent weeks, the hosts will be in confident mood ahead of this encounter.
In addition, Sevilla are unbeaten in their last ten matches on home turf amidst an overall solid record which stands at 12-3-1 31/14 with only rivals Atletico Madrid possessing a better defensive record at home in La Liga.
Visitors Celta Vigo moved into the semi-finals of the Europa League last week as they saw off Belgian side Genk 4-3 on aggregate following avoiding defeat in Belgium, and they have been rewarded with a semi-final fixture against Manchester United with home advantage in the first leg.
Celta Vigo could therefore be forgiven for having one eye on next week’s first leg against United, although they need to re-focus on La Liga this evening when they make their way to Seville for this Spanish top flight clash.
Perhaps predictably, Celta Vigo have not been as convincing in this season’s La Liga campaign following last season’s sixth placed finish as the increased number of games in their Europa League campaign seem to be catching up with them. They hold a disappointing away record of 4-4-8 21/29 and they’ve lost three of their last four ahead of this clash.
