Sheffield Wednesday won their third match in four games in the Championship last time out with a 1-0 win away at Fulham, and The Owls have now done the ‘double’ over The Cottagers as they recorded a 2-1 home win over Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup on the weekend.
Wednesday had previously registered wins over Wolves 4-1 and Birmingham City 3-0 at Hillsborough which has lifted them to within touching distance of the play-off pack, as they are now just two points adrift of Ipswich Town who reside in sixth place.
Sheffield Wednesday’s home record stands at a very solid 7-4-1 22/10 and they’re unbeaten in their last nine matches on home turf under the guidance of their Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal. Strikers Forestieri and Jaoa are the danger men up front for the hosts tonight.
Visitors Bolton Wanderers’ blushes were spared on Saturday when they scored a last-gasp equaliser away at National League outfit Eastleigh in a 1-1 draw in the third round of the FA Cup, while The Trotters’ Championship future looks bleak to say the least as they prepare for the trip to Sheffield this evening.
Bolton have registered just one win from their last 19 Championship matches and it’s a wonder they’re not even further behind the safety position of 21st placed Rotherham United with just four points separating the two teams heading into tonight’s round of fixtures.
But it’s Bolton’s poor away record that has prevented them from climbing out of the bottom three with a poor record of 0-3-9 7/25 under their belts, and they’ve also conceded the most away goals in the division to date.
