SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v HUDDERSFIELD TOWN

Wednesday 17th May 2017 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

This Yorkshire local derby resumes on Wednesday night with Sheffield Wednesday now appearing to be in the ‘box seat’ ahead of their play-off semi-final 2nd leg with Huddersfield Town as they hold home advantage at Hillsborough.

A tense and non-committal 0-0 draw was played out in the first leg at the John Smith’s Stadium as Huddersfield failed to make home advantage count, and now Sheffield Wednesday wil be looking to return to winning ways on home turf following a 2-1 defeat to Fulham in their last home match of the regular season a couple of weeks ago.

The Owls finished the season with an overall home record of  15-2-6  36/22 and even though they would have liked to have recorded fewer defeats than they did, they would have been hard pressed to keep up with promoted Newcastle United and Brighton who were head and shoulders above the rest of the division.

Look for striker Jordan Rhodes to break former club Huddersfield’s hearts here in this one!

Visitors Huddersfield Town have exceeded all expectations this season as they not only finished fifth in the Championship but made it to the play-offs, but I fear their journey may well come to an end on Wednesday night when they face Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Failure to take a lead with them into this second leg could cost them dear here this evening, as The Terriers finished the regular season with an inconsistent looking away record of  10-4-9  22/32, and their overall form dipped dramatically in the final weeks of the season with just one win from their last six.

Huddersfield also captured just one win from their last five on the road which was a 1-0 win at Wolves but defeats at Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City has raised serious question marks over their play-off pedigree.
