Sheffield Wednesday are another side whose play-off ambitions have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks as they’ve ended up on the losing side to Brentford and Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, but they return to Hillsborough for Saturday’s intriguing clash with Norwich City.
Prior to the defeat to Brentford at home a couple of weeks ago, Sheffield Wednesday had put together a seven-game unbeaten streak which included six wins, and with an overall home record of 11-1-4 24/14, you’d have to think they’re too good to suffer another defeat this afternoon.
Another factor in Sheffield Wednesday’s favour is that The Owls have failed to score just twice at home all season, and the likes of Rhodes, Fletcher and Forestieri should get a few goalscoring opportunities today.
Visitors Norwich City got their Championship campaign off to a flyer as The Canaries registered six wins from their first nine league games, but their form nose-dived from mid-October through to the end of December, and this has ultimately cost them the chance of automatic promotion.
Things have improved however at Carrow Road since as Norwich have lost just once in their last eight matches overall, but the damage has been done and they find themselves out of the play-off pack and six points behind this afternoon’s opponents Sheffield Wednesday.
An away record of 4-4-9 22/32 is simply not good enough for a side harbouring ambitions of a play-off place, and with just one away win from their last 11 outings on their travels, Norwich could find themselves up against it again today.
