SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v PRESTON NORTH END

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

Sheffield Wednesday secured a third win on the trot in all competitions last Saturday with a 2-1 win at Griffin Park over Brentford and The Owls have moved up into a mid-table position on the back of this improvement in form.

Wins over Fulham 3-2 in the Championship along with a 1-0 win away at Premier League Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup have shown that Sheffield Wednesday are a dangerous outfit and not to be taken lightly especially at Hillsborough where they’ve lost just once so far this season.

The Owls’ home record stands at  2-1-1  7/6  with wins over Bristol City and Fulham along with a draw against Reading, while Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal has left his mark upon the squad with four Portuguese players in Semedo. Melo, Matias and Joao.

Visitors Preston North End currently sit among the relegation places in the Championship having gained just one win in their first nine matches in the English second tier which was a 1-0 win away at new-boys MK Dons in early August.

Since that early success though, Preston have fallen on lean times and have gone seven matches without a win, a run which includes four defeats to Ipswich Town, Hull City, Derby County and Preston North End.

Away from home, Preston have gone three matches without a win with a draw at Rotherham United along with losses to Hull City and Brentford in amongst an overall record of  1-1-2  2/4 and in fact Preston have managed just two wins on the road from their last 22 trips which is a very poor record indeed.

With this in mind, I’ll back Sheffield Wednesday to at least avoid defeat here against a Preston outfit who have struggled on their travels – The Owls might take this perhaps 1-0.
