SHREWSBURY v PORTSMOUTH – Pick: 1 – 25 October 2014

Shrews look good for the points against poor Pompey

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 25th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Greenhous Meadow is the venue of my next pick as hosts Shrewsbury Town go in search of a fourth consecutive League Two win over Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon following their midweek win against Bury.

And it wasn’t just a win either against Bury, it was an absolute thrashing with The Shrews running out easy 5-0 winners, and with an overall home record of  6-1-0  17/2 going into today’s match, Shrewsbury will be very confident of adding further to the wins column here.

Shrewsbury have been on fire on home turf this season where they’ve scored the most number of goals at home in League Two whilst conceding the joint least (with Plymouth Argyle), and with Akpa-Akpro (hat-trick against Bury), Collins and Clark in the forward line, Micky Mellon’s boys look good for the points here.

Visitors Portsmouth registered a much-needed three points on Tuesday night when they overcame a spirited Stevenage outfit eventually winning 3-2 at Fratton Park which extended their unbeaten home run to four matches.

But Portsmouth’s problem this season has been their consistency on the road (or lack thereof) as they’ve now gone five matches without a win on their travels, and even more alarming, that they’ve failed to score a single goal in the last five away as well!

Pompey’s overall away record stands at a disappointing  1-3-3  2/8 and they’ve lost at the other two top six teams they’ve played so far with defeats at Burton Albion and Bury, 0-2 and 0-3 respectively.

Shrewsbury will be fired up for Saturday following their crushing win over Bury in midweek, and i’ll back the hosts to win this one as well, perhaps by a 2-0 scoreline.

Pick: Shrewsbury Town straight win @ 1.83 Ladbrokes
