Hosts too Shrew-d for visiting Wombles

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 14th February 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

League Two leaders Shrewsbury Town will look to extend their unbeaten home run to an amazing 16 matches when they host mid-table AFC Wimbledon at Greenhous Meadow.

Shrewsbury have backed up their pre-season promotion favourites tag so far during a successful campaign in League Two, and their current form has been almost perfect having won four of their last five overall, whilst drawing with fellow promotion rivals Southend United last weekend.

In midweek, Shrewsbury secured a vital 2-1 win win away at Carlisle United in a fixture that looked a tricky one to get all the points in, given Carlisle’s recent improvement in form, but these are the sort of wins a team needs to achieve in order to claim the prize of League One football next season.

Shrewsbury’s home record stands at a formidable  12-3-0  30/6 and miss out to Southend United by just one goal in the best defensive record at home in the division to date. Striker James Collins is worth keeping an eye on for a potential anytime goalscorer.

Visitors AFC Wimbledon currently sit in mid-table following an encouraging run of four matches without defeat with draws against Morecambe and Burton Albion away from home along with home wins over Accrington Stanley and Newport County.

However, three away matches without a win may hand the edge to Shrewsbury as The Wombles have never really been consistent on the road this season as their away record of  4-5-5  15/19 shows; and with just two away wins from their last twelve, they may find The Shrews a harder nut to crack than most.

Shrewsbury are now level on points with Burton Albion and have Southend United just two points behind them, so they’ll be keen to take the spoils in front of their home fans. Could be a 2-1 home win.
