SOUTHEND v ACCRINGTON – Pick: 1 – 14 February 2015

Southend keep knocking on promotion door

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 14th February 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Four wins from their last five matches in League Two have kept Southend United’s hopes of an automatic promotion spot firmly on track, and they’ll be looking for more of the same against Accrington today.

Recent wins over Oxford United, Portsmouth, York City and Cheltenham Town along with a useful point away from home at Shrewsbury Town in a 1-1 draw has kicked-start The Shrimps’ season after a period of uncertainty amidst some indifferent results.

Southend now appear to be firmly in the driving seat for promotion, while their overall home record stands at  7-6-2  14/5 which has been built upon a very solid defensive unit that has kept an amazing total of ten clean sheets on home soil so far, including seven on the trot.

Accrington Stanley ended a run of five straight defeats in League Two when they beat Oxford United 1-0 at home during the week, but they still face a very tough assignment this afternoon to get anything at Roots Hall.

In addition, Accrington Stanley have lost four of their last five away from home with defeats to York City, Tranmere Rovers, AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle while their overall away record stands at  4-1-10  17/29 and they have conceded the highest number of goals away from home in League Two which is not a good omen ahead of a trip down to Essex.

Southend United hold a good record against teams in the bottom half of the division, so with momentum behind them, I’ll back them to take the ponts here in what could perhaps be a 2-0 win.
