SOUTHEND v EXETER – Pick: 1 – 18 October 2014

Southend to bounce back against Grecians

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 18th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Following recent back-to-back defeats, Southend United will be looking to bounce back with a win today at Roots Hall when they host bottom half placed Exeter City on Saturday afternoon.

Southend have slumped to defeats at home to Morecambe 0-1 and last Saturday’s 0-2 loss at Luton Town which have resulted in The Shrimps dropping down into 5th place, but nevertheless, a win today could see them leapfrog last weekend’s tormentors Luton Town into fourth spot.

Southend possess a bit of a mixed home record to date with overall stats of  3-1-2  6/3 which includes wins over Stevenage, Portsmouth and Shrewsbury Town, but overall they do have a pretty solid record at Roots Hall over an extended period of time which has seen them lose just three times in their last fifteen on home turf.

Exeter City have also lost their last two matches on the trot with a Johnstones Paint Trophy loss at Coventry City 1-3 and then last Saturday’s home defeat to fellow strugglers Hartlepool United 1-2, although prior to last weekend, The Grecians had put together a five match unbeaten run which included four wins.

Exeter’s four wins included three on the road away at Cambridge United, Tranmere Rovers and Dagenham & Redbridge, along with a home win over Bury, but it should be noted that two of their three away wins have been at bottom half opposition.

Exeter’s away record stands at  3-0-3  6/8 but I believe they face a stern test this afternoon at Roots Hall.

As mentioned then, Southend do have a solid record at Roots Hall and i think this will see them through against a spirited Exeter City outfit who are likely to push them all the way this afternoon – but I think Southend will prevail today in what could be a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Pick: Southend United straight win @ 1.75 bet365
