SOUTHEND v LUTON – Pick: 1 – 25 April 2015

Shrimps to continue reign at Roots Hall

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 25th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500 hrs

SOUTHEND UNITED

Southend United registered a sixth consecutive win in League Two on Tuesday night when they beat fellow promotion hopefuls Bury 1-0 at Gigg Lane to move up into fourth spot with just two matches remaining of the season.

The Shrimps are now level on points with third placed Wycombe Wanderers going into the final couple of weeks, and with home advantage once again at Roots Hall, Southend will be going all-out for the three points here against Luton Town.

Southend’s home record stands at  11-8-3 24/9 and their success this season has without doubt been built around a very solid defensive record at Roots Hall where they’ve racked up a total of 15 clean sheets so far.

LUTON TOWN

Luton Town need a win this afternoon to revive their ailing play-off hopes despite last weekends 3-0 home win over Hartlepool United. The Hatters have won just twice in their last eleven League Two matches overall – the other being a recent 1-0 win at bottom club Tranmere Rovers.

However, Luton Town’s away form has dipped considerably since the turn of the year, with just one away win to their name from the last twelve matches on the road amidst an overall record of  6-7-9 17/24.

In addition, it’s interesting to note that Luton have won just once away from home against top half opposition from a total of eleven matches played against such opposition.

With this poor record in mind, I’ll back the hosts Southend United to grab the spoils here this afternoon in what could perhaps be a 1-0 win.

Pick: Southend United straight win @ 1.80 Coral
