SOUTHEND v MORECAMBE – Pick: 1 – 04 October 2014

Southend to win 'battle of the Shrimps'

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 4th October 2014 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

It’s off to Roots Hall next for the ‘battle of the Shrimps’ between hosts Southend United and visitors Morecambe in what is also a clash between two sides currently in the top six of League Two.

Looking at Southend United first and after winning their first two matches on the trot, they then slumped to four matches without a win – but Phil Brown’s side have managed to bounce back in emphatic fashion as they’ve won their last four on the trot with wins over Portsmouth and Shrewsbury Town at home, while registering away wins at Cheltenham Town and York City.

That’s four very solid wins they’ve secured there with an overall home record of  3-1-1  6/2, and manager Brown will be pleased with three clean sheets from their last four also.

Visitors Morecambe hit the ground running in impressive fashion as they racked up four straight wins to announce themselves in the new season of League Two with wins over Dagenham, Newport, Oxford United and Cambridge United.

However, this proved to be something of a false dawn as they’ve since won just once from their next six matches, and they’ve suffered three straight defeats going into today’s match with losses against Mansfield Town and AFC Wimbledon away from home together with last Saturday’s home defeat to Northampton Town.

Morecambe’s away record stands at  2-0-3  6/5 and it’ll be interesting to see how the cope with Southend with their tails up, particularly as Morecambe have lost their last three on the road.

Phil Brown’s Southend are on a roll at the moment and have the confidence and momentum behind them while Morecambe must be wondering what’s gone wrong after such a strong start to the season. There’s nothing like that winning feeling so I’ll back the hosts to win this one perhaps 2-1.

Pick: Southend United straight win @ 1.73 Coral
