SOUTHEND v TRANMERE – Pick: 1 AH-1 – 11 April 2015

Southend to cover the line at Roots Hall

League One/Two Tips

Football – England – League Two

Saturday 11th April 2015 – Kickoff: 1500hrs

Southend United have stepped up their promotion campaign with three wins from their last five which has kept them in touch with third placed Wycombe Wanderers.

Recent wins against Dagenham & Redbridge, Mansfield Town and Hartlepool United (all of whom reside in the bottom half of League Two, the same as Tranmere), has maintained Southend’s interest in catching up Wycombe, and with just one defeat from their last 14 at Roots Hall, they look a good bet for the points again this afternoon.

Southend’s home record stands at  9-8-3  21/9 and along with Shrewsbury Town, they’ve conceded the least amount of goals at home in League Two, keeping a total of 13 clean sheets in the process.

Tranmere Rovers continue their battle against relegation in what is seemingly a perennial exercise to once again avoid the drop into the Conference. Monday saw Rovers lose 1-0 at home to Luton Town and this has resulted in them dropping into the bottom two of the division.

The situation at the bottom of the table is extremely tight and even a point at Southend with Hartlepool losing would see Rovers leapfrog The Pools out of the relegation zone. But this could well be easier said than done as they try to breach a tight Southend defence at Roots Hall this afternoon.

Tranmere’s away record reads a disappointing  4-5-11  17/28 and they’ve won just once in their last seven away trips which was a 2-1 win at Cambridge United recently. It’s true Rovers are once again fighting for their lives, but this may have to wait until they’re back at Prenton Park.

Southend are chasing Wycombe down and will certainly be looking to make their remaining home matches count as the promotion battle heats up. I’ll back Southend for the win and to cover the -1 line too, perhaps 2-0 to the hosts.
