Sandgrounders good for a point against Shots

Southport will be looking to maintain their recent solid unbeaten run which has seen them go six matches without defeat when they entertain Aldershot Town tonight.

Despite their current lowly league standing of 19th place, Southport’s recent run of form has kept them above the bottom four with recent wins against Braintree Town, Welling United and Nuneaton Town along with valuable points taken off Lincoln City, Dover Athletic and Dartford. In addition, The Sandgrounders also dumped League Two outfit Dagenham & Redbridge out of the first round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at Haig Avenue.

Southport are generally pretty steady at their Haig Avenue ground and despite a relatively poor record of  3-2-5  11/17, they’re unbeaten in their last three matches on home turf. Forwards Brodie (6 goals) and Marsden (4 goals) look the likeliest anytime goalscorers for the hosts here.

Aldershot Town have produced some mixed results lately with wins against Kidderminster and Nuneaton Town, but have also suffered defeats to Gateshead and Eastleigh as well as a draw with Dartford away from home.

Despite Aldershot’s mid-table position, their record on the road hasn’t been great as their overall stats of  2-4-4  8/10 show, and they’ve only won once from their last eight matches which was that recent 2-0 result at Kidderminster.

Southport then are on a good run of form and with home advantage look a good bet to at least avoid defeat here tonight while it remains to be seen whether The Shots can string together back-to-back away wins on the road. I’ll take the hosts here with the quarter ball in my favour as they might shade this one perhaps 2-1.
